Kawayu onsen
Our eagle friend whose favourite spot in town was sitting on the bridge over the river watching for food and calling to his mate over in the trees. These guys were flying around every day
This is where the suspension bridge leads to over the river
Kawa-yu is a tiny village. Nobody spoke any English at all. It was great. If you don't feel like bathing outdoors for all town to see, you can go into the public onsen which is the white building you can see with the red sign that looks like a steaming cup of coffee. Everything exists in this tiny town because of the hot spring and not surprisingly there is a selection of hotels, who never see non-japanese guests. We pre-booked this place by getting a friend who spoke japanese to make the booking. The hotels have the hot spring water piped into their own private bath houses (sento).

Also, the river water is crystal clear and there are other onsen towns off the same river close by other some small mountains.
Danielle strategically positioned at the junction of cold and boiling water.
Cooling off in the freeeeeezing river water. The hot spring gets too hot so you can spend your day hopping in and out. Although the water is so cold, you get so hot in the rotenburo that you can deal with it, but it's initially shocking
These suckers have decided to dog their own hole. It look like pretty hard work but they got there eventually and dug a channel to the cold river water. And then they just sat on the edge with their feel burning in it, fully clothed.
